Lawrence's Jennette signs with Huntsville Havoc
APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University hockey standout Nick Jennette has signed a contract to play for the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Jennette (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) becomes the second Lawrence player in as many years to sign a pro contract. Josh Peterson signed with the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League in April 2008.

"I am extremely excited to get down there and get after it," Jennette said. "Hopefully I can work hard enough to earn a spot on the team."

Jennette was an All-Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association selection this past season. He scored 14 goals and added 14 assists for 28 points in 28 games.

"Nick has worked very hard over the past three seasons," Lawrence head coach Mike Szkodzinski said. "He has grown in all aspects on and off the ice. His competitive drive and other intangibles are going to be tough to replace for our program but will be a great addition to the Havoc. We have no doubt that Nick will be a great representative of the Lawrence hockey program at the professional level."

Jennette broke or tied a number of Lawrence records this season and broke one NCAA mark. Jennette, a six-time MCHA Player of the Week and academic all-conference selection, set the NCAA record with 111 consecutive games played. Jennette finished his career with school-record totals of 103 points and 48 goals. He also holds the school record of 19 career power-play goals and the season record of 18 goals.

"I'm very grateful for everything that coach Szkodzinski and my team has done for me. There is no way I could have done this on my own," Jennette said. "I'm very fortunate to have this opportunity to try and get into the lineup, but I know I have a long road ahead of me."
